PE and Sports Premium

PE

At St. Michael’s Primary School, we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of the children. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our children.

Extra Curricular

Children at St Michael's experience a wide range of extra curricular opportunities provided by specialist sports coaches and school staff.

Swimming

Our children have swimming classes at set times in the school year.  In swimming lessons children learn a range of strokes and perform basic self rescue techniques.

We aim for all children of our Year 6 cohort to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres using a range of strokes.

What is the PE and Sports Grant?

The Education Funding Agency additional funding to each school is to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding - provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport - has been allocated to primary school headteachers. This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools. Please see attached files which identify the planning and delivery of these initiatives.

Sports Funding

Our Primary School Sport’s Funding has enabled us to continue and extend our provision through employing additional sports professionals, entering into more competitive and fully inclusive sports competitions for all our children and training our staff to deliver in-house high quality PE sessions
